This lack of confidence and shyness changed when she was enrolled in a boarding school in Pune where she would get a degree in Communications. This is where Tanushree literally found herself, ended up being more confident and open enough to participate in the Miss India pageant in 2002 and 2003. Success eluded her as she could not make it to the final group of contestants. She was not discouraged with her failures, but persisted and finally dusky Tanushree not only made herself eligible for the competition but was crowned Miss India, replacing Nikita Anand, at the Bandra-Kurla Complex on March 27, 2004.
